Promoting DIScussions of COst (DISCO) With Newly Diagnosed Patients

Given that up to half of all patients with cancer experience financial toxicity, and that some patients even forego treatment due to high costs, the Karmanos Cancer Institute has partnered with cancer survivors and clinicians to develop a tool that helps patients better prepare for the cost of their treatment. In this session, you will learn about the DIScussions of COst (DISCO) app—a scalable, customizable app that educates patients about treatment costs and prompts early discussions about payment options. By connecting patients to critical resources early in the treatment process, Karmanos hopes to decrease the likelihood of uncompleted treatments.
