Provider Resources

The following links provide resources to help providers educate their patients about clinical trials and find financial assistance programs.

  • American Cancer Society
    This site contains factsheets, videos, worksheets, and other resources and tools for both clinicians and patients.
  • National Cancer Institute
    Through the publications locator, NCI provides numerous fact sheets, brochures, pamphlets, CD/DVD’s and other education resources free of change. Also available for providers is a series of tools, including a web-based application that enables researchers, clinicians, and patients to easily share, integrate, and analyze data from many sources.

    Sample resources include:

    • Understanding Cancer Clinical Trials, DVD
    • Clinical Trials Education Series, CD
    • Cancer Clinical Trials: A Resource Guide for Outreach, Education, and Advocacy
    • caBIG® Clinical Trials Suite
  • Patient Advocate Foundation
    The PAF provides basic information about clinical trials for patients and their families. One resource, "Lighting the Way: A Practical Guide to Clinical Trials" contains nine chapters as well as a personalized Q & A that can be used by the patient. The PAF also provides a listing of resources for financial assistance, specific to medications and co-pays.
  • Medline Plus, National Institutes of Health
    This site includes an interactive tutorial featuring a slide show with voice-over and graphics explaining the process and structure of clinical trials. The voice-over option can be converted to a print or text version.
  • CancerCare
    This organization offers several education materials including fact sheets and other print materials for patients and families. Sample resources include:

    • Clinical Trials: Improving the Care of People Living with Cancer
    • Don't be Afraid of Clinical Trials: They Could Improve the Quality of Your Care
  • Velcade
    This site contains patient education materials about Multiple Myeloma, including a patient resource kit. The kit is free and contains a treatment calendar, laboratory test glossary and tracker, information about the Velcade patient assistance program as well as other co-pay foundation resources, and a list of transportation assistance programs.
  • Good Days
    Formerly called the Chronic Disease Fund, Good Days works with doctors and pharmacies to help pay for patients’ out-of-pocket expenses, and provides an extensive list of chronic diseases and medications they cover.
  • Needy Meds
