2019 IO Telehealth Roundtable

On Monday, December 9, 2019, ACCC hosted the IO Institute Telemedicine Roundtable in Dallas, Texas. As the U.S. continues to see increased demand for cancer care services, telemedicine and technology are becoming a vital component of delivering high-quality, value-based cancer care. Although innovative e-health platforms and virtual navigation services can improve patient access to care for patients who are appropriate for cancer immunotherapy treatment, implementation of, and reimbursement for, these services remains a complex endeavor. The IO Institute Telemedicine Roundtable aimed to address these issues and facilitate cross-field discussion on key priorities and next steps to help accelerate the advancement of telemedicine as part of immuno-oncology in the community setting.

Part 1: Introductions & Setting the Stage

Hear opening remarks from Lee Schwartzberg, MD, FACP, executive director of The West Cancer Center and chair of the ACCC IO Institute Executive Committee, introductions from each attendee, and a foundational presentation from Telehealth Consulting Services, Inc.

Part 2: Utilizing Telemedicine to Improve the Provider Experience

Hear from Matt Bouchonville, MD, associate professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at University of New Mexico School of Medicine and medical director of Endo ECHO (Project ECHO), on how the ECHO model could be used in IO, followed by group discussion

Part 3: Utilizing Telemedicine to Improve the Patient Experience

Hear from Lori Williams, PhD, APRN, associate professor in the Division of Internal Medicine, Department of Symptom Research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center about considerations for telemedicine and the patient experience, followed by group discussion.

Part 4: Discussion & Case Examples

Listen in on group discussion about the current challenges and opportunities in telemedicine, drawing on examples from Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, University of Kansas Cancer Center, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America – Chicago.

Part 5: Policy & Reimbursement Considerations for Implementation

Hear from Becky Bounds, MSN, RN-BC, CPHQ, program manager at TexLa Teleheath Resource Center about the current policy and reimbursement landscape, as well as resources available from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and the National Consortium of Telehealth Resource Centers, followed by group discussion.

Part 6: Closing Discussion
