ACCC Urges Congress to Pass the Multi-Cancer Early Detection Act

The Association of Cancer Care Centers (ACCC) today released the following statement in support of the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act (H.R. 842/S. 339) (“MCED Act”), which would create a meaningful pathway for seniors to have access to the newest transformational tools in cancer detection.

“Cancer centers are at the heart of tremendous advances in cancer care, and we know that detecting cancer early makes all the difference in cancer outcomes. Until recently, we have only been able to screen for five cancers, leaving too many cancers undetected until they have spread to other parts of the body and are more difficult to treat,” said Meagan O’Neill, ACCC Executive Director. This is now changing thanks to multi-cancer early detection, but it is incumbent upon Congress to make these tools accessible to Medicare beneficiaries. This week Congress has the opportunity to unleash a new era in combating cancer by voting on the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act (H.R. 842/S. 339). Congress has repeatedly acted to ensure patients have access to innovative tools to combat cancer and stands ready to do so again this week. We will continue to support Congress in those efforts, beginning with the passage of this bill for patients.
