ACCC Celebrates Reintroduction of Policy That Will Bring Early Cancer Detection Tools to Cancer Centers Across the Country

“These technological advances in cancer detection are available now, but Medicare must be able to make them accessible. The time is now to pass this bill.” – Meagan O’Neill, ACCC Executive Director

ACCC released the following statement applauding leaders in Congress for reintroducing the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act / the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act (H.R. 842 and S. 339), which creates a meaningful pathway for seniors to have access to the newest transformational tools in cancer detection.

“Cancer centers are at the forefront of advancing cancer care, and early detection is essential to improving patient outcomes. Until recently, routine cancer screening was available for only five types of cancer, leaving many others undiagnosed until later stages when treatment is more challenging,” said Meagan O’Neill, ACCC Executive Director. “We commend lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives—Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Richard Hudson (R-NC), Terri Sewell (D-AL), Raul Ruiz (D-CA), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), and Robin Kelly (D-IL)—as well as Senators Mike Crapo (R-ID), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Tim Scott (R-SC) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) for once again standing up for cancer patients by reintroducing the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act/the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act. Last Congress, this bill earned overwhelming bipartisan support with nearly 400 cosponsors. As the 119th Congress begins, momentum continues to build. To fully unlock the potential of multi-cancer early detection, Medicare coverage is essential. We urge Congress to pass this bill without delay.”
