With this project ACCC seeks to gain deeper insight on the impact variations in dispensing models within hospitals, health systems, or practice groups has on patient-centered cancer care delivery, coordination of care as patients transition between care settings, and optimal pharmacy operations. Important components of coordinated, patient-focused care delivery may be affected by decisions related to adoption of particular dispensing models in oncology. These decisions, in turn, may be influenced by multiple factors including:
Oral anti-cancer therapies transformed the way in which care is provided to patients. When oral agents are equally efficacious as parenteral treatments given in infusion centers and other healthcare settings, most patients with cancer prefer oral agents because they can be taken at home.Because oral anti-cancer agents are most often administered outside of the clinic, it takes a multidisciplinary team to successfully manage these patients and their treatments.
