National NSCLC Quality Care Initiative

What are the key patient- and healthcare-centered interventions that will ensure provision of the highest quality of care for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)? end-quote

To address this question, the Association of Community Cancer Centers convened a Steering Committee of multidisciplinary specialists and patient advocacy representatives to identify aspects of NSCLC care that are not addressed in nationally recognized quality measures and to define metrics for ideal NSCLC care.

The Steering Committee endorsed 32 recommendations targeting four different phases of the patient journey: care coordination and patient education, diagnosis and biomarker testing, staging and treatment planning, and survivorship.

The recommendations were used in designing a double-blind, national online survey (January-April 2019) of multidisciplinary cancer care teams to assess how patients with stage III and IV NSCLC are diagnosed and managed.

Outcomes from the survey—including recommendations for defining high-quality care and findings that cancer care team collaboration improves patient outcomes—can be explored below in poster presentations, infographics, and video summaries.

You are encouraged to share links to these resources with your colleagues and the broader oncology community on social media. ACCC would like to thank all the survey respondents at cancer programs nationwide for participating in the survey and providing valuable insights on NSCLC care delivery.
