PROJECT ECHO®: BEST PRACTICES FOR ADMINISTERING BISPECIFIC ANTIBODIES IN A COMMUNITY PRACTICE

Since the first bispecific antibody (BsAb), a novel class of immunotherapy, received approval from the FDA in 2014, the drug class has developed exponentially, but not without its challenges. Namely, BsAbs present unique and serious toxicities such as cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell–associated neurotoxicity syndrome. With a high proportion of patients receiving treatment in community cancer centers, these clinicians are tasked with understanding BsAb pharmacology and preparing for the logistical demands that accompany this form of treatment. Doing so effectively requires strong collaboration across the multidisciplinary cancer care team.

To demonstrate successful examples of such collaboration, ACCC launched Project ECHO®: Best Practices for Administering Bispecific Antibodies in a Community Practice as a resource for multidisciplinary oncology teams as they prepare to implement BsAbs in their cancer programs. Building on the 2 previous iterations of Project ECHO®️, Tele-mentoring to Manage Immune-related Adverse Events in Patients Receiving Cancer Immunotherapies and Evolving Role of Bispecific Antibodies as Cancer Therapy, this initiative guides community oncologists on evidence-based practices for the use of BsAbs in solid and hematologic malignancies through a series of 3 webinars.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) Series

Earn up to 3.0 CME/CNE/CPE credits upon completion of ACCC’s 3-part webinar series designed to support multidisciplinary oncology teams in the use of BsAbs for cancer treatment.

Session 1: Best Practices for BsAb Use in Lung Cancer and Other Solid Tumors

Session 2: Overcoming Operational Challenges in Community Settings

Session 3: Referral Workflows and Care Coordination for BsAb Treatment

After completing this educational activity, learners will be able to:

  • Address barriers to the awareness, preparedness, adoption, and use of BsAbs for the treatment of cancer.
  • Improve coordination and communication between community hospitals and academic centers to optimize outcomes for patients being treated with BsAbs.
  • Implement strategies for providing equitable care to underserved patients receiving cancer immunotherapies.
