Matt Sherer is the Executive Director for Oncology at the Spencer Cancer Center with East Alabama Medical Center Opelika, Alabama. He is an experienced healthcare executive with a focus in oncology with over 25 years of leadership experience. He is experienced in creating and implementing strategic plans, clinical and business operations, clinical trials, marketing, philanthropy, volunteering, advocacy, and talent recruitment/retention. He has successfully achieved accreditations from The Joint Commission, the American College of Surgeons/Commission on Cancer, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, American College of Radiology Breast Center of Excellence, and the American College of Radiation Oncology.
He is an advocate for cancer patients and cancer care. He is an active member with the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He has been a volunteer with ACS since 2005 in Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina. He received the 2014 Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) Grass Roots Effort for Patient Access Award for his efforts in helping get legislation passed in Florida on oral parity.
He serves on the ACCC Government Relations Committee, the ACCC Editorial Committee, the Association of Cancer Executives (ACE) Vendor Relations Committee and has been a mentor in the ACE Fellowship Program.
