Luis E. Raez, MD, FACP, FCCP is the chief scientific officer and medical director at Memorial Cancer Institute (MCI)/Memorial Health Care System. He is also the director of the Thoracic Oncology Program and co-director of the MCI/Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Florida Cancer Center of Excellence, which has been designated by the Florida Department of Health as one of only five Cancer Centers of Excellence in Florida. He serves as clinical professor of medicine at Florida International University (FIU), visiting professor of medicine at Cayetano Heredia University in Peru, and research professor at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Dr. Raez’s clinical specialties include medical oncology in the areas of lung cancer and head and neck cancer therapy, as well as internal medicine and clinical hematology. He designs phase I-III clinical trials with new targeted agents and immunotherapy, conducts translational and clinical research in cancer vaccines, and has been funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the pharma industry.
Dr. Raez was an associate professor of medicine, epidemiology and public health, and a co-director of thoracic oncology at Sylvester Cancer Center/University of Miami for 10 years (2001-2011). He served the president of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) from 2019-2021. He has also been serving as chairman of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Latin American Group (LATAM) since 2018; chair of the IASLC Membership Committee from 2015-2018; international chair of the IASLC-Latin-American Meeting (LALCA) since 2014; chairman of the “Miami Best of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)” since 2014, chair and founder of the “Miami Cancer Meeting (MCM)” since 2002, and co-chairman of the “Puerto Rico Fall Cancer Symposia (FCS)” since 2010, among many other institutions. He is one of the founding members of the Oncology Latin-American Association (OLA). He has also delivered presentations and lectures in national and international meetings across the United States, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
Dr. Raez received his medical degree from Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru. He completed residencies in hematology/oncology and internal medicine at the University of Miami. He is American Board Certified in internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and board eligible in Hematology.
