Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the Best Practices for Implementing Cancer Immunotherapy in the Community education initiative participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate practical issues related to immunotherapy and devise strategies to over the barriers to providing optimal patient care in the community setting.
  • Assess alignment of current practice with best practices related to coordination and communication within the multidisciplinary cancer care team to optimize integration of cancer immunotherapies.
  • Examine solutions to coverage and reimbursement issues associated with implementation of immunotherapies in the community setting.
  • Discuss strategies to engage patients to actively participate in the shared decision-making process.

The initiative is designed to roll out in four phases:

  1. Identify gaps and develop interventional tools. Advisory Committee members will work collaboratively to identify practice gaps and develop educational interventions to address these.
  2. Educational design and implementation. This will occur prior to and during the on-site workshops at the two participating cancer programs.
  3. Analysis and communication. At the conclusion of the initiative, ACCC will report on the barriers identified and work of the two sites to overcome these barriers by implementing a PDSA model.
  4. Publication. Lessons learned from this initiative will be shared with the ACCC membership and the wider oncology community.
