Descriptive Title: Clinical Instructor – Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for supervising the Infusion center at Stony Brook Cancer Center.
Department: Medicine – Division of Hematology & Oncology.
Required Qualifications: Current NYS RN license. Master’s degree in Nursing. NYS license and certification as an adult and/or family nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant’s degree with NYS License and certification.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the management and treatment of cancer patients. Excellent communication skills. Experience with chemotherapy toxicities and infusion reactions.

Responsibilities & Requirements: The APP will report to the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology.

Responsibilities may include all or some of the following:

• Manage infusion reactions and treat as appropriate.
• Review infusion orders for clarity and modify as necessary.
• Independently assess and evaluate patients in the infusion clinic of Stony Brook Cancer Center who present with new or progressive symptoms/signs.
• Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory findings for patients seen in the infusion center.
• Manage complications of chemotherapy including writing/editing chemotherapy orders.
• Manage outpatient phone calls including toxicity assessments and recommendations.
• Provide coverage and management for sick walk-ins.
• Educate patients and family members regarding chemotherapy toxicities .
• Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems (EMR).
• Additional responsibilities may also be required as the position evolves over time.
