Who Are We?

Founded in 2009 through the unification of the Indiana Medical Oncology Society (IMOS) and the Hoosier Oncology Office Practice Society (HOOPS), the Indiana Oncology Society (IOS) is the largest oncology professional organization in the state. IOS comprises a powerful community of oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary care providers involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

IOS is one of 23 State Chapter Members managed by the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) and is a State Affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Our members receive valuable educational content and innovative resources designed to keep them ahead of the local and national challenges and trends directly impacting the high-quality care their patients deserve.

We collaborate with internal and external organizations to support our mission of improving patient outcomes and the treatment of cancer in the State of Indiana.

To carry out our mission, we strive to:

  • Promote the highest professional standards of oncology in Indiana;
  • Study, research, and exchange information, experiences, and ideas leading to improvement in oncology;
  • Identify and improve oncology practice issues that adversely affect patient access to cancer care;
  • Act as a patient advocate to assure that patients have access to the best available care; and
  • Support and encourage clinical research against cancer.

Our goals are to:

  • Advocate on state and federal legislative issues impacting patient access to care;
  • Provide an education forum for our members on the current technologies and medical best practices in cancer care delivery; and
  • Communicate changes and updates in oncology practice to our members and the broader community.

IOS serves as a foundation for oncology providers in Indiana, and having had the opportunity to work with numerous physicians across the state has been invaluable and integral to my role on the IOS Board of Directors. Our society has been actively involved in patient advocacy efforts through the input of everyone in our community, and we continue to work closely with legislators to help and support our oncology patients.
