Hello and welcome to the new West Virginia Oncology Society website.As President of the Society, I am pleased to announce a new partnership with the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) to help WVOS maintain and increase its prominence in the state, the region, and the nation. WVOS will continue to serve as the state affiliate of ASCO.
Our goal is to be a vibrant organization based on strong local roots with sound administration. Our mission remains to engender and promote improvements in patient care, education, clinical trial accrual, and pertinent economic and legislative issues as they affect all elements of oncology in the State of West Virginia.
A New Partnership. The new partnership with ACCC, in which WVOS becomes an ACCC Chapter Member and is managed by ACCC, allows WVOS to expand our expertise and services and increase value to members and patients within West Virginia. ACCC will help WVOS develop and manage meetings, provide communications, manage membership, and develop strategic partnerships. ACCC will also manage the society’s finances and assist in raising funds from corporate sponsors so that the society’s objectives and mission may be accomplished. In addition, ACCC will assist in our advocacy efforts with Medicare, managed care companies, and state and federal policy makers to address such issues as the drug shortage crisis, reimbursement and practice management, clinical trials, and off-label drug use for chemotherapy pharmaceuticals.
The WVOS Board of Directors believes that ACCC is uniquely qualified to help us achieve our mission of promoting excellence in the care of patients with cancer and hematological disorders in the State of West Virginia.
A New Membership Campaign. We will soon be launching a membership campaign to target our state’s institutions and encourage any and all comers to participate in our society. As the face of oncology changes, we want to work cooperatively with all oncology practices that encounter the same challenges in their day-to-day work.
A New Website. In addition, I'd like to encourage you to browse through our recently redesigned website. We've made our information and resources easier to find with more user-friendly navigation as well as updated links. Your suggestions for new web resources are welcome.
