Oral Drug Therapy Parity Laws
Did you know that 13 states and the District of Columbia have passed chemotherapy drug parity laws?
- District of Columbia
- New Mexico
About 30% of oncology drugs are oral agents, and this number is growing. As more oral therapies emerge, many health plans create inequity and access problems for patients by covering infused chemotherapies at lower out-of-pocket patient expense than oral agents.
Laws passed in other states require insurers to cover oral cancer medications at a no less favorable rate than injectable or infused drugs from a patient cost sharing perspective.
WAHO is committed to seeing similar legislation passed in Wisconsin. We have begun the process of identifying sponsors in the State Legislature and will keep you updated on our progress. If you would like to help us achieve this goal, please contact Leah Ralph, Director, Health Policy.
