The Opportunity

The Cancer Network of West Michigan is seeking a new Executive Director and Medical Director of Lacks Cancer Center at Trinity Health Grand Rapids. This physician leader will be an energetic and innovative leader with a talent for collaboration and a vision for creating a differentiated cancer program.

The Organization

Recognizing a common vision to provide world class cancer care to West Michigan, Trinity Health and University of Michigan Health - West formed a joint venture in January 2020, bringing together the Lacks Cancer Center at Trinity Health Grand Rapids, the Johnson Cancer Center at Trinity Health Muskegon, and the University of Michigan Health-West Hospital (the University of Michigan’s healthcare presence in West Michigan) to form the Cancer Network of West Michigan (CNWM). The NCI designated cancer center of the University of Michigan (UM), the Rogel Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, will also be a partner in the CNWM and bring academic resources and opportunity to the alliance. The cancer network programs will be regional leaders in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and discovery, bringing a patient-centered team approach, unsurpassed compassion and service, deep subspecialty capabilities, and active participation in research and clinical trials.

The Position

The Executive Director (ED) will be an outstanding physician leader with a deep commitment to the optimal delivery of patient-centered cost-effective quality care. The ED will be an employee and faculty member of the University of Michigan and will report to the Governing Committee of the Cancer Network of West Michigan (CNWM). The role of the ED is to serve as a service line leader on behalf of the hospitals and university that constitute the members of the CNWM. The ED will provide leadership in a dyad relationship with the Administrative Director of CNWM and will have accountability for the oncology Medical Directors at the Johnson Cancer Center at Trinity Health Muskegon and the University of Michigan Health–West Cancer Center. The ED will concurrently serve as the Medical Director for the Lacks Cancer Center. The oncology administrative executives of these hospitals will report to the Administrative Director of CNWM who is a dyad- partner to the ED.

The Region

The West Michigan region is 100 miles from Ann Arbor in one direction and Chicago in another. It is the fastest growing region of the state. Grand Rapids, the largest city in the region has a population of 198,000 with a metropolitan statistical area (MSA) of just over 1 million. Muskegon, a 45-minute drive from Grand Rapids, sits on the shore of Lake Michigan with an MSA population of more than 170,000.

Healthcare in Western Michigan is dominated by three systems: Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health), Trinity Health, and University of Michigan Health-West (a member of the University of Michigan).
