As the Director of Finance for the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, your expertise will be critical to the success of one of the nation’s elite centers of cancer research, clinical care and education. You will contribute to the development and implementation of the Center’s short- and long-range financial strategic plans as you help ensure the overall financial sustainability and day-to-day operations of the Center. This will involve overseeing the management of all Cancer Center funds, including grants and contracts, gifts and endowments, indirect cost recovery, state funds, sales and services, institutional support, etc. You will:

  • Prepare the Center’s annual budget
  • Develop and manage the NCI-funded Cancer Center Support Grant budget
  • Manage and track allocation and spending of all philanthropic fund sources
  • Supervise personnel involved in budgeting and accounting
  • Ensure effective and streamlined financial processes and procedures
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the David Geffen School of Medicine Controller
  • Support the implementation of accounting and financial reporting best practices
  • Implement and monitor comprehensive control program and environment
  • Execute internal controls program

Qualifications

We’re seeking a self-directed, collaborative team player with a personal drive for excellence and the following traits:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance – Master’s/MBA preferred
  • A minimum of seven years of financial management experience, ideally in an academic/medical setting
  • In-depth knowledge of financial and accounting concepts
  • Expertise in fund accounting and fund management
  • High-level skill in developing budgets, forecasts, and variance and trend analyses
  • Proficiency with Excel and other financial management tools
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, organizational and creative problem-resolution skills
  • Proven leadership abilities with exceptional political savvy, tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to balance shifting priorities in a dynamic, complex, matrixed environment
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Experience managing federally funded, complex grants and contracts a plus
  • Thorough understanding of financial planning, budgeting and management
