Hematology/Oncology—Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
  • Job Summary:
    • The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) working in the Hematology/Oncology practice is responsible for providing comprehensive care to all hematology/oncology patients in an outpatient setting. The NP/PA is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs. The NP/PA demonstrates an advanced level of medical/nursing clinical knowledge, professional and compassionate communication style, and interdisciplinary collaboration in a systems-based practice.
  • Education:
    • For Nurse Practitioner- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and completion of a Nurse Practitioner-focused graduate master’s or doctoral nursing program is required.
    • For Physician Assistant- Master’s degree in PA education program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • Registration/Certification/Licensure:
    • Unexpired, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APNP) license in Maryland or compact state or Physician Assistant License 
    • Advanced Oncology Certified NP (AOCNP), preferred
    • Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire
    • Current cancer-specific certification by an accredited certification program or ongoing education by earning 12 cancer-related continuing education nursing contact hours each year for a total of 36 CEU’s per accreditation cycle (3 years) preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3 or more years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant in a clinical setting, preferred.
    • 2 or more years’ clinical expertise with patients having acute and chronic illness, specifically hematology/oncology, preferred.
    • New grads with ICU/ER experience will be considered.
