Responsibilities

Following its mission of “we care for you: mind, body and spirit,” the Simms/Mann-UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology provides whole person integrated psychosocial support and other integrative care services for adults with cancer. The Center provides psychosocial care accessible to all oncology patients, with Center staff as members of a patient’s care team, in the outpatient UCLA Health settings. In this role, you will fulfill the requirements of the Gift Agreement between UCLA, UCLA Health and the Simms/Mann Family Foundation that stipulates the various additional staffing, training, development of metrics, demonstration of exceptional patient experience through core and integrative services, exploration and implementation of new programs, branding in the clinics, and sound fiscal management of the Center’s growth.

Much of this work will be in collaboration with the Senior Director of Cancer Services at UCLA Health. As our Center Director, you will serve as the externally identifiable representative of the Center. The current program serves as a national model for integrative psychosocial care and training and, in this role, you will ensure that the Simms/ Mann Center is at the forefront of innovative and exceptional integrative patient care with the development of the appropriate new programs, community collaborations and enhancement of patient care through technology (VR, Apps, for example).

You will be responsible for interfacing with leadership, fiscal management and support of fundraising, clinical care, supervision and teaching, evaluation and outcome research. You will also be directly involved in and responsible for donor cultivation and fundraising for identifying and securing philanthropic funds for the sustainability of the Center's programs.

Qualifications:

  • Skill in the development of whole-patient integrative and integrated comprehensive needs assessment and treatment of patients with cancer from multiple disciplines.
  • Experience with oncology patients and their physicians in teaching hospitals.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with physicians and other medical staff in an outpatient or inpatient hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a referral network to assist patients to improve the quality of their lives at all phases of the disease and treatment.
  • Experienced in the development of budgets and fiscal management
  • Skill in communicating with professional and nonprofessional audiences through written and oral methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize outcome data at professional meetings and publications.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and their use for data management.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills as they relate to patients, physicians, staff and potential donors.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated leadership skills in running boards, communicating a vision, developing agenda, motivating members, and addressing needs of board members.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in grant writing, fund raising, the art of networking, communication and the willingness to make asks for financial support.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in the tasks of cultivation, involvement and recruitment of financial support and the ability to communicate effectively with donors regarding how their resources were used effectively.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals across a wide range of economic, social and ethnic backgrounds as well as knowledge and experience working with LGBT populations.
  • Administrative experience in a comprehensive academic medical environment strongly preferred.
