Who is Leading OPEN and Why?

With the enthusiastic endorsement of the ACCC Board, a new OPEN Advisory Board was established, bringing together leading pharmacists from hospital cancer programs around the nation. “It’s a natural blend of interests,” said Dr. Lee E. Mortenson, former ACCC’s Executive Director. “ACCC has a significant presence in the nation’s hospitals, and oncology pharmacists are looking for a role in influencing policies and accelerating the educational opportunities within their specialty.”

The Advisory Board is chaired by Ernie Anderson, Jr., MS, RPh, Director of Lahey Clinic’s pharmacy. He is a strong advocate of greater education and a greater role for oncology pharmacists in the decision-making processes that affect their ability to provide a quality service.

“There has never been a greater need for an oncology pharmacist network,” said OPEN Chairman Ernie Anderson. “We are constantly facing new challenges in a very complex field, and within a year, perhaps more, we can expect a significant influx of new cancer patients. OPEN is the way that we can stay on top of this ever-changing arena, and indeed, there is a real possibility, working with ACCC, that we can affect those changes.”
