Patient Resources and Aid
A number of cancer care organizations offer information to help patients better understand their disease and to help them identify the right questions to ask. Many of these organizations also provide assistance with co-pays, guidance for people with cancer, including professional counseling, support groups, education, and referrals to cancer patients and their families to help them cope with the consequences of cancer.

Children's Treehouse Foundation
The mission of the Children's Treehouse Foundation is to establish support programs so the children of parents with cancer are better able to cope. The Foundation provides funds and training guidance to cancer hospitals and cancer centers.

Coping With Cancer Magazine
America's consumer magazine for people whose lives have been touched by cancer. Provides knowledge, hope, and inspiration from cancer survivors and healthcare professionals. Coping provides official annual coverage of National Cancer Survivors Day and is a National Sponsor.

Gilda's Club Worldwide
International network where men, women and children with cancer and their families and friends join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care in a free nonresidential home-like setting. National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses
The National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses, Inc. is a non-profit corporation serving facilities that provide lodging and other supportive services to patients and their families when confronted with medical emergencies. Each facility assures that a homelike environment is provided to persons who must travel to be with a patient or to receive necessary outpatient care.

National Organization for Rare Diseases
National Cancer Institute
NCI is the U.S. government agency responsible for conducting and supporting research on cancer. Their site provides information about treatment, clinical trials, and supportive care. The NCI provides a listing of government-sponsored clinical trials.

National Cancer Survivors Day (NCSD) Foundation
The Foundation provides education, legal counseling and referrals to cancer patients and survivors concerning managed care, insurance, financial issues, job discrimination and debt crisis matters.

The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) helps people who need a life-saving marrow or blood cell transplant by connecting patients, doctors, donors and researchers to resources they need to help more people live longer, healthier lives. They have the largest listing of volunteer donors and cord blood units in the world, support patients and their doctors throughout the transplant process, and match patients with the best donor or cord blood unit using innovative science and technology.

The Oral Cancer Foundation
The Oral Cancer Foundation is a national public service, non-profit organization designed to reduce suffering and save lives through prevention, education, research, advocacy, and support. Oral cancer is the largest group of those cancers which fall into the head and neck cancer category, and includes mouth cancer, tongue cancer, and throat cancer. Each year in the US, approximately 30,000 people are newly diagnosed with oral cancer. The Foundation's website provides information about the rates of occurrence, risk factors which lead to oral cancer, treatments, current research, and current oral cancer related news. A patient/survivor forum is open to the public where those currently fighting oral cancer can gain insights and inspiration.

Ovarian Cancer National Alliance
A survivor-led not-for-profit organization that was established with the mission to conquer ovarian cancer by uniting individuals and organizations in a national movement. Founded in 1997, the Alliance has succeeded in raising the visibility of ovarian cancer and is an invaluable resource for many ovarian cancer patients, family, friends or medical professionals. The Alliance has three main focuses – advocacy, awareness and education.

Serves as an active liaison between the patient and his/her insurer, employer and/or creditor to resolve insurance, job retention, and debt crisis matters.

R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation, Inc.
The Cancer Hotline matches newly diagnosed with someone who has survived the same cancer. Offers free information, lists of Multidisciplinary Second Opinion Centers, and free books: Fighting Cancer, Cancer... There's Hope and Guide for Cancer Supporters.

Ronald McDonald House
Sisters Network, Inc.
An African American breast cancer survivor run organization that provides individual/group support; community education, advocacy and research through affiliate chapters nationwide.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. The Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The Oley Foundation
Provides free information and psychosocial support to patients fed by tube or IV at home who cannot be sustained by normal eating because part of their gastrointestinal tract is damaged or removed. However, it does not provide financial support or oral nutrition counseling.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults
Provides free support programs, education and resources to benefit young adults, their families and friends who are affected by cancer and to promote awareness and prevention of cancer.

The Wellness Community
Provides free of charge professionally led support groups nationwide and education, stress management, and social networking in a home-like community setting with a focus on enhancing health and well-being. Twenty-two facilities nationwide.

Vital Options International TeleSupport Cancer Network
The Group Room Radio Talk Show, a weekly syndicated call-in cancer talk show linking callers with other patients, long-term survivors, family members, physicians, researchers and therapists.

American College of Oncology Administrators (ACOA)
ACOA brings together all components of oncology management to develop quality educational programs, provide sound evaluation mechanisms, assist in response to national issues and foster a climate of formal and informal exchange among members. ACOA develops programs to assist members to enhance
professional identification, recognition and esteem; develop peer, mentor and liaison relationships; and participate in the development of the management field of information administration.

American College of Radiation Oncology
Founded in 1989 with a current membership of approximately 1,700, the American College of Radiation Oncology is the only organization that exclusively, and uniquely, represents radiation oncologists in the socioeconomic and political sphere without influence from any other specialty.
ACRO welcomes physicians and physicists in the practice of radiation oncology as Active Members. Administrators and technical personnel that work in a radiation oncology practice are welcome as Associate Members.

American College of Radiology
For more than 75 years, the ACR has been a leader in the field of radiology, providing its members with vital education, research, scientific information, and advocacy to continually advance the profession and enhance patient care.

American Society of Clinical Oncology
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) represents physicians who treat people with cancer. ASCO has more than 21,500 members from over 100 countries. ASCO’s membership is comprised of clinical oncologists representing all oncology disciplines and subspecialties; physicians and health-care professionals participating in approved oncology training programs; oncology nurses; and other health-care practitioners with a predominant interest in oncology.

American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO)
ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world, with more than 8,000 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies. As a leading organization in radiation oncology, biology and physics, the Society is dedicated to the advancement of the practice of radiation oncology by promoting excellence in patient care, providing opportunities for educational and professional development, promoting research and disseminating research results and representing radiation oncology in a rapidly evolving socioeconomic healthcare environment.

Association of Oncology Social Work
The Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) is a non-profit, international organization dedicated to the enhancement of psychosocial services to people with cancer and their families. Created in 1984 by social workers interested in oncology and by existing national cancer organizations, AOSW is an expanding force of psychosocial oncology professionals.

The Cancer Project
This is a collaborative effort of physicians, researchers, and nutritionists who have joined together to educate individuals, families, and the public on the benefits of a healthy diet for cancer prevention and survival. The Cancer Project provides comprehensive educational materials, conducts clinical research studies, and publicizes the value of a healthy diet in cancer prevention and survival.

International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer
The goals of the International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer are directed towards the rapid dissemination of information in immunology and biology within the field of cancer therapy and to expedite the safe transfer of both basic and applied research to the clinical setting. The International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer was founded in 1984 as the Society for Biological Therapy with 40 charter members. The Society currently has over 500 members consisting primarily of MDs, PhDs, RNs, and corporate representatives.

Oncology Nursing Society
The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a professional organization of more than 32,000 registered nurses and other healthcare providers dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and administration in oncology nursing. The overall mission of ONS is to promote excellence in oncology nursing and quality cancer care.

Society for Radiation Oncology Administrators
The Society for Radiation Oncology Administrators is a national organization whose objectives are to improve the administration of the business and non-medical management aspects of radiation oncology and the practice of radiation oncology as a cost effective form of health care delivery. We provide a forum for dialogue between members on matters of professional interest, to disseminate information among members of the Society and to promote the field of radiation oncology administration.

Society of Gynecologic Oncologists
The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) is a national medical specialty society of physicians who are trained in the comprehensive management of women with malignancies of the reproductive tract. Its purpose is to improve the care of women with gynecologic cancer by encouraging research, disseminating knowledge which will raise the standards of practice in the prevention and treatment of gynecologic malignancies and cooperating with other organizations interested in women's health care, oncology and related fields.

Adult Cancer NCI Cooperative Groups:
American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN)
The American College of Radiology Imaging Network seeks to advance diagnostic imaging and image-guided interventional procedures. From the main page, click on "Protocols/Forms." The site provides a PDF-format version of the complete protocol document for each of its clinical trials, along with a scientific abstract and forms for investigators.

American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG)
The American College of Surgeons Oncology Group focuses on evaluating diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in patients with the most common malignant solid tumors, such as breast, lung or colorectal cancers. The protocols (clinical trials) section provides the titles of ACOSOG trials, but requires a password to view additional details for each trial.

Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB)
The Cancer and Leukemia Group B conducts clinical trials in patients with leukemia, lymphoma, melanoma, breast cancer, lung cancer, genitourinary malignancies, gastrointestinal malignancies and prostate cancer. Current clinical trials information is available to the public.

Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG)
The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) conducts trials in many types of adult cancers at institutions around the United States. Much of the educational material on the site is centered on clinical trials. Find open trials by clicking on "ECOG's active protocols."

European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)
The EORTC is a network of scientists and clinical oncologists working in the main cancer research institutes of the European Union countries. The organization conducts multicenter clinical trials throughout Europe as well as intergroup studies (Australia, USA, Canada). The clinical trials listing can be viewed in a variety of ways (by treatment, tumor site, etc.).

Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)
The members of GOG conduct clinical trials in ovarian, cervical, endometrial and other types of cancer affecting the female reproductive system. No clinical trials information is publicly available on the GOG site; GOG trials are listed in the NCI clinical trials database.

National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group (NCIC)
The NCIC's Clinical Trials Group carries out clinical trials in cancer treatment and supportive care across Canada. Summaries of current clinical trials include brief eligibility criteria and a contact number.

North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG)
The North Central Cancer Treatment Group comprises a research network, mainly located in the north central US and Canada, coordinated by the Mayo Cancer Center in Minnesota. In addition to clinical trials in the treatment of a wide variety of cancers, the NCCTG conducts studies in the control and prevention of cancer. The listing of NCCTG protocols is limited to trial titles and protocol numbers.

National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP)
The NSABP conducts clinical trials in breast and colorectal cancer at hundreds of locations around the country. In addition to treatment trials, NSABP conducts large prevention trials, such as the Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene (STAR). Information on treatment trials as well as prevention trials is available on their Web site.

Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG)
The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group conducts clinical trials employing radiotherapy alone and in combination with other modalities (such as surgery and chemotherapy) in a range of cancers. The Group is also active in using different radiotherapeutic modalities such as implantation (brachytherapy), radiosurgery, and three dimensional conformal treatment planning. The "Protocol Summaries" section offers links to both a summary and a complete version of RTOG protocol documents, including sample informed consent forms for each study.

Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG)
The Southwest Oncology Group conducts clinical trials and basic research in a number of different types of cancer. A search for open clinical trials provides you with the title, abstract, and other information.
