Accredited as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program through the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, the cancer program at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center (MCRMC) serves a growing community need in Southeast Michigan.

Through its multi-disciplinary approach, MCRMC cancer program provides comprehensive cancer care that includes prevention and education, early detection and screening programs, cutting edge technology including targeted chemo-, biological, and immuno-therapy, radiation therapy, and surgery in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Tumor site-specific cancer teams meet regularly in cancer conferences /tumor boards to ensure that cancer patients have the best options available for their care. Multi-disciplinary teams include Breast, Orthopaedic (Musculoskeletal and Soft Tissue), GYN, GI, GU, and thoracic.

In June 2008, the Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center opened. This new state of the art, outpatient facility located on the hospital campus provides the community access to world-class cancer care with convenience, patient centered service delivery, and a healing environment.

In this new facility, cancer patients have access to world- class radiation oncology services. With the Varian Trilogy, the expert radiation oncologists have some of the most advanced treatment options to offer, including 3D conformal and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), respiratory gating, CT simulator, and treatment planning, and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). In addition to external beam radiation therapy, the active brachytherapy program includes HDR (gynecology, breast, and thoracic cancers) and prostate seed program.

A new surgery center opened in November 2005 that features state of the art environment and technology for patients and physicians. The minimally invasive surgery program expanded with the addition of daVinci robotic surgical system for prostatectomies.

In November 2008, a new Breast Center opened that gives the finest medical staff the best technology available to disarm the threat of breast cancer among women in our area. Breast cancer experts are now armed with the best technology including all digital mammography, high-resolution breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and minimally invasive breast biopsies. The addition of a certified breast health navigator provides women with the resources needed for breast health education, answers to questions, and even assistance with setting necessary appointments.

The comprehensive services also include community education and prevention, and screening programs, advanced diagnostics including MRI and PET/CT, supportive and rehabilitative services, and end-of-life hospice care.

Through affiliation with the Great Lakes Cancer Institute and research associations with SWOG and NSABP, cancer patients at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center have access to some of the most advanced preventive, treatment, and supportive options available.
