The Cancer Program at Memorial Hospital serves over 1300 cancer cases annually and is fully-accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Certified oncology nurses (OCN) provide inpatient care in our 34 bed Medical Oncology Unit. A Nurse Navigator offers support and streamlined care to breast cancer patients.
Memorial’s cancer specialists apply the most technologically advanced methods to treat cancer including progressive surgical interventions and clinical trial participation. Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy is provided at Memorial’s Southside Cancer Center. Traditional therapies are supplemented by the most advanced technologies.
These state-of-the-art treatment tools include DaVinci robotic surgery, minimally invasive cryoablation and embolization, Stereotactic Core Breast Biopsy , Sentinel Node localization, MammoSite brachytherapy and CyberKnife radiosurgery. Memorial’s CyberKnife Center is one of the nation’s busiest, and served more lung cancer patients during 2007 and 2008 than any other CyberKnife in the world.
