Among Our Speakers . . .

Gerald A. Kraines, MD, is president and chief executive officer of The Levinson Institute. He is also on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kraines regularly lectures on leadership development, managing organizational change, developing tough, but fair work cultures, and achieving highly productive and accountable team. His groundbreaking book, Accountability Leadership, describes principles essential for achieving fully integrated, managerial leadership systems. Dr. Kraines is frequently featured and quoted in both the print and electronic media about managerial issues focusing on bringing both scientific knowledge and common sense back to the workplace.
Marybeth Regan, PhD, Senior Vice President, NanoImproved, Inc., is a nationally renowned expert, writer, and public speaker in the areas of disease management and care management. She has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare consulting, as well as informatics and e-health. She has held senior positions, most recently as the global managing partner with Reden & Anders, a subsidiary of Ingenix and United Healthcare.
Neal Barnard, MD, is both a physician and an advocate for compassion in the medical and scientific communities. Author of Breaking the Food Seduction and founder of a new nonprofit The Cancer Project, Dr. Barnard emphasizes the importance of vegan diets in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The Cancer Project conducts clinical research studies to investigate dietary issues and publicizes the need for cancer prevention and the value of healthy diet changes. The Cancer Project’s hands-on nutrition classes have become extremely popular, helping cancer survivors and their families learn new tastes and easy food preparation skills. Dr. Barnard has dedicated the past 20 years to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, an independent, separately incorporated affiliate of The Cancer Project, which promotes preventive medicine, conducts clinical research, and encourages higher standards for ethics and effectiveness in research.

ACCC’s 2009 Annual Achievement Award Winner
Susan Leigh, RN, served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and completed a tour of duty in Can Tho, Vietnam, in 1971. Soon after her return from Vietnam, she was diagnosed and treated for Hodgkin’s disease. This experience influenced her decision to enter oncology nursing where she worked with various clinical research teams at the University of Arizona from 1976 to 1989. Currently, Ms. Leigh works as a cancer survivorship consultant. She was a founding member and past president of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), and a member of the working committee that developed the “Cancer Survival Toolbox: Building Skills That Work for You.” She also initiated the formation of both the Nurse Survivors Focus Group and the Survivorship Special Interest Group (SIG) within the Oncology Nursing Society.
