Oncology Issues Honored in 2005 SNAP Excel Awards Competition
ROCKVILLE, MD—The Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) recently received an industry award for its magazine, Oncology Issues. A 2005 SNAP Excel Gold Award in magazines, Editorial category, was given to Oncology Issues for its January 2004 editorial, entitled “Welcome to the Matrix” by then-Executive Director Lee E. Mortenson, DPA.
Dr. Mortenson compared recent legislative action affecting office-based oncology practices with the science-fiction movie trilogy. "Lots of action, no heart, and definitely no real underlying philosophy."
The SNAP Excel Awards are presented by the Society of National Association Publications, a non-profit, professional society serving the needs of association publishers and communications professionals. SNAP’s annual competition recognizes and rewards the exemplary work of association publishers.

The Association of Community Cancer Center's bimonthly journal, Oncology Issues, provides in-depth information on the issues that affect the delivery of high-quality, state-of-the-art cancer treatment at the community level. A few of the informative, issue-oriented topics include:
- How hospital cancer programs and oncology practices can keep a competitive edge in the rapidly changing environment of Medicare reimbursement cuts, alliances, and down-sizings
- The future of community-based clinical research
- Buying new technologies for hospital cancer programs and practices.
The Association of Community Cancer Centers provides a national forum for addressing issues that affect community cancer programs, such as regulatory and legislative issues, measurements of the quality of care, and clinical research. Its unique membership of more than 650 hospital cancer programs and oncology private practices includes all members of the cancer care team: medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, cancer program administrators and medical directors, oncology nurses, pharmacists, radiation therapists, oncology social workers, and cancer program data managers.
