Lee B. Riley, MD, PhD, to Receive Association of Community Cancer Centers’ Community Clinical Scientist Award
ROCKVILLE, MD—Lee B. Riley, MD, PhD, of St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., will be one of three physicians to be honored with the Association of Community Cancer Centers’ Community Clinical Scientist Award. The award recognizes active community clinical research leaders and is given in recognition of Dr. Riley’s contributions in the fight against cancer.
The award will be presented to Dr. Riley during the Association of Community Cancer Centers’ (ACCC’s) 32nd Annual National Meeting at the Crystal Gateway Marriott, in Arlington, Va., March 15, 2006.
Dr. Riley is medical director of St. Luke’s Cancer Center and chief, Surgical Oncology, at St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network in Bethlehem, Pa. He is currently conducting vaccine research for solid malignant tumors.
The newly established ACCC Community Clinical Scientist Award recognizes active community clinical research leaders who have demonstrated leadership in the development, participation, and evaluation of clinical studies or are active in the development of new screening, risk assessment, treatment, or supportive care programs for cancer patients.
Dr. Riley, and the two other award winners, will become lifetime members of the ACCC National Academy of Community Oncology Scientists, which will serve as a valuable resource to ACCC, the National Cancer Institute, pharmaceutical companies, and other organizations involved in community-based cancer research.
The Association of Community Cancer Centers provides a national forum for addressing issues that affect community cancer programs, such as regulatory and legislative issues, measurements of the quality of care, and clinical research. Its unique membership of more than 650 hospital cancer programs and oncology private practices includes all members of the cancer care team: medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, cancer program administrators and medical directors, oncology nurses, pharmacists, radiation therapists, oncology social workers, and cancer program data managers.
