Association of Community Cancer Centers to Explore Cancer Guidelines and Pathways in the Community Setting
Attendees to Learn About the Coming Transformations in Cancer Reimbursement and How Providers Can Integrate Guidelines into Daily Workflow
ROCKVILLE, MD – November 21, 2011 - The Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) will sponsor a unique seminar that explores new payment models in community oncology, which are evolving as providers and payers use evidence-based clinical guidelines and pathways to drive more effective therapeutic spending. Entitled “Navigating the Changing Landscape of Payment Models in Community Oncology,” this first-ever seminar will be held on December 8, 2011, at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

“The challenge for oncology practices and hospital cancer programs is how to achieve high-quality care at lower costs in a shifting reimbursement environment,” said ACCC President Thomas Whittaker, MD, FACP. “Integrating guidelines and pathways into the community setting via new cancer management systems may be an option.”
Cancer management systems integrate guidelines and pathways into each oncologist’s workflow for ease of use, connecting to the electronic medical record, and providing on-going compliance monitoring and reporting, which are critical to evaluate success.
ACCC’s December 8, 2011, seminar will explore the option of selecting a cancer management system. Panelists from cancer programs and oncology practices who have begun to utilize cancer management systems review the process by which they selected and implemented their system. They will also explore staff perceptions about the system and the challenges of buy-in. Attendees will hear directly from the nation’s leaders in pathway and cancer management system development about their innovations aimed at improving quality care at lower costs.
A pre-conference will be held on December 7, 2011, for representatives of the pharmaceutical and insurance industries to help them better understand how the cancer pharmacy and its purchasing decisions will be affected in the changing oncology reimbursement landscape.
