Essential Responsibilities:
VCU Health System is currently recruiting for a full-time Tumor Registrar to collect and retrieve data using a computerized cancer registry system and to perform case finding, abstracting, staging and patient follow up for the diagnosis and/or treatment of cancer. The Tumor Registrar is responsible for other case related activities such as data requests, quality control and support to the Cancer Committee.

Essential Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will be a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) registration by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) preferred; will be required by the CoC and NCRA by January 2015.

Candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent; College Degree Allied Health field or completion of certified courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology preferred. As well, previous work experience in registry abstraction in an academic medical center and abstracting experience using current requirements by state and national regulatory bodies is preferred.

Senior Financial Counselor, Johns Hopkins Unviersity, Department of Oncology

Job Description:
Senior Financial Counselor, Coding Specialist coordinates the patients' financial billing responsibilities for the Department of Oncology at Green Spring Station. Requires an in depth knowledge of the OCIS AND IDX Professional billing systems, as while as the scheduling and registration systems. Core responsibilities are to obtain and verify financial and insurance information prior to actual time of service. Requires extensive knowledge of insurance contracts, medical terminology and coding. Other tasks include collections cash control, charge entries and related activities.

Specific Duties:

  • Obtain and verify financial and insurance information from patients prior to time of service, including Managed Care authorizations and referrals.
  • Troubleshoots all insurance coverage for patients, prior to time of service, regarding off label use of drugs. Obtains proper documentation and supporting data, from the ordering physician. Writes letter of medical necessity, when required.
  • Pre certifies all new chemotherapy treatments.
  • Pre plan patients' financial responsibilities prior to time of service and inform patients of self-pay responsibilities. Follows all guidelines within the Policy and Procedure Manual for Oncology at Green Spring.
  • Initiate budget payment plans utilizing the Clinical Practice Association's Policy and Procedure Manual Budget Plan Matrix.
  • Collect payments at time of service, including co-pays and deductibles.
  • Initiate refunds with proper documentation.
  • Resource for HMO and insurance guidelines for both billing and registration staff.
  • Handle special projects from the billing and clinical managers.
  • Completes charge capture daily. Troubleshoots any questionable encounters, works closely with the pharmacist and nurses staffing, to accomplish this goal.
  • Prepare reports utilizing spreadsheet software.
  • Evaluate past due accounts from billing for write-off, collection agency and/or legal action.
  • Keep current on all new policy changes for insurances, HMOs and implement changes, monitoring for compliance.
  • Completes daily bank deposits for both Medical and Radiation Oncology.
  • Assist oncology patients with their bills and/or billing concerns.

Qualified candidates must possess a Master's degree in Nursing, Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credentials and 5 years of clinical experience in Oncology. Experience as an Oncology Nurse Navigator preferred.

Patient Financial Counselor, Austin Cancer Centers, Austin, Texas

Job Description:
Medical & Radiation Oncology Patient Financial Counselor position performs financial counseling on all oncology patients prior to treatment. Position also includes assisting patients in obtaining foundation and other financial services.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and explain the patient's insurance benefits in terms that they understand
  • Determine need for additional coverage (Underinsured)
  • Determine which plans are available to assist the patient with their out of pocket expenses
  • Determine if patient would qualify for manufacturer drug replacement
  • Discuss and initiate Practice Credit Policy
  • Answer any questions the patient may have about reimbursement and payment
  • Provide ongoing communications with all patients undergoing treatment

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with Patient Financial Services Supervisor, Director of Revenue Cycle and Chief Financial Officer to ensure compliance with the Practice financial policies.
  • Work cooperatively with employees of the Practice, as well as outside agencies and the public.
