The Middlesex Cancer Center provides world class care within a community hospital setting.
In 2002, the cancer program moved to a new Cancer Center which combines radiation oncology, medical oncology and supportive services at a single site in close proximity to diagnostic radiology including Pet, CT and MRI. The cancer program is an ACoS-approved Comprehensive Community Cancer Center most recently accredited in 2009. The Medicare-certified hospice, established in 1985, includes homecare as well as in-patient care within the hospital. Clinical trial participation includes patient entry on NSABP, CALGB, and industry sponsored protocols. The tumor registry was established in 1932. The registry currently tracks 4,500 patients and accesses about 1,000 new cases annually.

The Director, Cancer Center will be a key Department Head position, responsible for the overall management, growth and development of outpatient cancer care and treatment. The Director will work collaboratively with the Cancer Center Medical Director who will be a practicing member for their medical staff under contract to provide the Cancer Center with physician leadership. General Summary of Duties:
The primary responsibility of the Director, Radiation Oncology Center is the management of the daily operations and performance of the Radiation Oncology Center. Duties and Responsibilities:

- Monitors referrals to the center on a daily basis and works to expand relationships with potential referral sources.

- Collaborates with physicians to develop and foster positive working relationships.

The Cancer and Infusion Center Program Manager is responsible for the day–to–day operations of the hospital's cancer center and infusion services at three sites. This position serves as a clinical resource and leadership role model for the Supervisors and clinical and non–clinical staff within the Center. The Program Manager actively coordinates with Supervisors to monitor and report on overall performance (patient and employee satisfaction, financial outcomes, etc.), ensures appropriate staffing levels and participates as a member of the leadership team for the Cancer Center to ensure achievement of overall service line objectives. The Cancer and Infusion Center Program Manager assists with the development, interpretation, and application of policies and procedures and financial budgets.
The incumbent needs to be a seasoned leader in cancer services with experience in clinical & specialty program planning, and business development with the ability to influence effectively within a hospital service line & the community. The ideal candidate will have a BSN, Masters Degree in Nursing or related health care field is preferred (MHA/MBA), at least five years of experience within a hospital based cancer center/program or a large oncology physician practice group.

Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Director, Radiation Oncology Center is the management of the daily operations and performance of the Radiation Oncology Center. This includes all aspects of staffing and operational processes that will drive high quality, efficient patient care. In partnership with the leadership team, this position will develop and execute on growth strategies for the Radiation Oncology Center.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Operational responsibility for the business and clinical functions through administrative and clinical staff including front desk/clerical, nursing, and therapists to ensure maximum utilization of resources and the efficient delivery of services.
- In partnership with Sarah Cannon Cancer Services (SCCS), hospital administrative teams and physicians, develops and implements a center specific strategy and promotes operational standards in accordance with those of the SCCS division.
- Directs all activities in the center in accordance with the policies and procedures of the division to make certain that all quality standards are met or exceeded.
- Monitors referrals to the center on a daily basis and works to expand relationships with potential referral sources.
- Partners with center physician(s) to collaborate on initiatives and improve the patient experience.
- Attends oncology related meetings at the partner hospital, which may include the cancer committee or tumor board.
- Collaborates with physicians to develop and foster positive working relationships.
- Represents the facility by membership in related professional and community associations. Supports community projects and agencies.
- Ensures that the center staff is appropriately resourced with supplies to provide patient care.
- Coordinates preventative maintenance on the equipment in accordance with the manufacturers' requirements and in accordance with the centers service agreement. Engages the vendor as needed to address specific equipment service related issue.
- Communicates with SCCS leadership, local physician sales, managed care, and supply chain to plan for emerging trends in terms of clinical protocols, technology, reimbursement, medical management, and supply utilization.
- Promotes patient and staff education needs in regards to oncology services.
- Collaborates with decision support and IT to develop tracking and reporting mechanisms to monitor the centers performance.
- Serves as the Ethics and Compliance Officer for the center and collaborates with the Division Director of Compliance to make certain all policies and guidelines are being followed.
- Evaluates, recommends and justifies capital needs for the center.
- Practice and adhere to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement"
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong operational management skills.
- Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of audiences to include physicians, hospital leadership and community leaders.
- Results driven and collaborative style to achieve defined objectives.
- Project management, budgeting, problem solving and
- Broad based business acumen and understanding of various disciplines within oncology services (operations, finance, technology, etc).
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required, RTT helpful, but not required.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of management in an oncology center, a physician practice, or a busy ambulatory care facility.
- Radiation oncology operations experience strongly preferred.
