Vision
ACCC is the leading national multidisciplinary organization that defines quality care for patients with cancer and influences change to continually improve cancer care.
Mission
ACCC is the national multidisciplinary organization that focuses on enhancing, promoting, and protecting the entire continuum of quality cancer care for our patients and our communities. ACCC will fulfill our mission by pursuing the following six strategic objectives:
- Patient Advocacy
- Quality and Economic Issues
- Research in the Community
- Cancer Program Management
- Leadership in Policy Development and Promotion
- Education and Support for Members
- Initiate and promote legislation of importance to patients with cancer and the community.
- Evaluate, and where necessary, develop guidelines for cancer patient care.
- Promote timely patient access to appropriate cancer specialty care.
- Identify patient concerns with quality of cancer care.
- Monitor legislation and regulations, and promote policies, ensuring timely patient access to cancer care and clinical trials. Develop and present position statements as appropriate.
- Communicate with the payer community on cancer care issues.
- Provide advocacy groups with communications and educational materials on Association policies and activities.
- Collaborate with other organizations and build coalitions to achieve ACCC’s policy objectives.
- Develop and implement strategies in collaboration with other organizations to ensure appropriate resources for quality cancer care.
- Investigate and disseminate information on models for cost-effective cancer care that promote quality cancer care, patient access, patient safety, and optimum outcomes.
- Provide information on new technologies and the ethical, quality, and economic implications.
- Evaluate and advise agencies that are developing quality measurement instruments for cancer care.
- Utilize existing local and regional cancer forums to provide education on appropriate, reasonable and necessary cancer care to payers and employer groups.
- Evaluate existing programs and where necessary develop educational mechanisms for primary care providers.
- Collaborate with national groups to evaluate the impact of managed care payers on the quality of cancer care.
- Acknowledge and encourage the growth and development of community research.
- Monitor activities of the National Cancer Institute, pharmaceutical/biotechnological companies, and other agencies with regard to policy for community research activities. Develop and present position statements as appropriate.
- Provide proactive leadership for the development and enactment of policies and legislation to support patient care costs in clinical trials.
- Identify barriers to community research and implement national and local strategies to remove them.
- Assist members in promoting and participating in clinical trials.
- Review and update the ACCC Guidelines for Cancer Programs and provide this information to members and cancer programs.
- Provide information on new technologies and the ethical, quality, and economic implications.
- Provide education about approaches for the effective management, delivery, and financing of comprehensive cancer care.
- Promote benchmarking of cancer programs.
- Seek appropriate collaborative relationships with other organizations that develop oncology standards.
Leadership in Policy Development and Promotion
- Initiate and promote legislation of importance to patients with cancer.
- Monitor legislation and regulations, and promote policies, ensuring timely patient access to cancer care and clinical trials. Develop and present position statements as appropriate.
- Support the needs, growth and development of leadership for the state oncology societies.
- Collaborate with other organizations and build coalitions to achieve ACCC’s policy objectives.
- Generate grass roots support for cancer issues.
Education and Support for ACCC Members
- Promote leadership development and member participation in activities of the Association.
- Provide education about approaches for the effective management, delivery, and financing of comprehensive cancer care.
- Provide education and networking opportunities, encourage the development and growth of qualified members, and promote communications between ACCC leadership and membership.
- Provide forums for exchange of information among members.
- Support the activities of ACCC Committees.
- Support the ongoing activities of regional/state oncology-related societies.
- Provide communications and educational materials on Association policies.
- Provide and expand existing publications and web site activities.
Strategic Priorities 2007-2008
- Continue and expand development of educational programs.
- Provide proactive leadership to influence legislation and regulations that ensures access to cancer care.
- Increase membership including hospital programs, freestanding cancer centers and physician practices, individuals, and state societies.
- Ensure that the pharmaceutical industry continues their support of patient assistance programs for patients who might otherwise not be able to access treatment.
- Research, collaborate, develop and promote guidelines for the continuum of survivorship.
