Overview

The Texas Society of Clinical Oncology (TSMO) seeks abstracts on medical oncology topics to share knowledge between the academic centers and the community during the Annual Meet-ing. Fellows are invited to submit. Abstracts previously submitted to ASCO, ASH, etc. are ac-ceptable. Recipients of accepted abstracts will be invited to attend the poster session on the evening of October 3, 2008 and will be given a travel award to include the cost of lodging and mileage. The best abstracts selected will then be presented orally on Saturday October 4, 2008 and the responsible authors will receive a $500 Fellow Recognition Award. The submission deadline is 5 pm July 31, 2008. TSMO reserves the right to review and accept submissions.

Selected Areas/Topics may include:

  • Medical Oncology
  • Clinical Trials/Interventions
  • Pilot Studies
  • Patient and Survivor Issues
  • Retrospective Chart Review

Abstract Submission Directions and Format

Abstracts should be:

  • 250 words or less on abstract submission form
  • 10-12 point font
  • Affiliations clearly listed
  • Submitted electronically via email to tsmoabstracts@accc-cancer.org. Include your abstract and biography in an MSWord document attached to the email
  • Submitted no later than the deadline of 5 pm on July 31, 2008.

1.  Abstracts submitted to TSMO may have been previously presented or published, in whole or in part.

2.  Abstracts must be submitted electronically via email to tsmoabstracts@accc-cancer.org as an MS Word attachment or in the body of the email. Each First Author will receive an e-mail to verify that TSMO has received the abstract.

3.  Include a bio with your submission. Be sure to include your name, institution (affiliation), address, telephone number, fax number, and email address. As the First Author (presenter), you will receive all future correspondence from TSMO.

4.  4. Include a completed Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form with your abstract submission—please note: you will need to complete a separate form for each of your co-authors.

Formatting Your Abstract

  • Title:
The title of your abstract in sentence case, capitalizing only the first letter of the first word of the title and any proper nouns or acronyms. Do not use proprietary drug names in the title; use generic drug names instead. Do not refer to study results or conclusions in the title; it should objectively describe the study. TSMO reserves the right to edit abstract titles to conform to this policy.
  • Coauthor(s):
The name and institution of each coauthor.

Preparing Your Abstract

Please make special note of the following when preparing your ab-stract for submission.

  • Describe the objectives and results of the research in the abstract so that the TSMO Ab-stract Review Committee can evaluate the quality, originality, and completeness of the ab-stract. Abstracts will be judged solely on the basis of the data in the submitted abstract. Statements such as "further data will be available" are discouraged.
  • Organize the abstract according to four sections, identified by the following headers (in bold): Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
  • Do not refer to study results or conclusions in the title of the abstract. The title should objec-tively describe the study.
  • Do not use proprietary names alone in the title or body of the abstract. If necessary, you may include a proprietary name in parentheses directly after the generic name on first use in the body of the abstract.
  • Place abbreviations in parentheses immediately after the first mention of a term or phrase; the abbreviation can then be used throughout the abstract. Take particular care to identify complex chemotherapy regimens accurately.

Responsibilities of the Author

The First Author must:

  • Verify that all coauthors are aware of the contents of the abstract and support its data.
  • Agree, on behalf of all coauthors, to transfer copyright to TSMO for publication in the annual meeting proceedings and on the TSMO website.
  • Agree to present the abstract if it is selected for presentation at the TSMO Annual Meeting. (This includes being present during the scheduled time of a Poster Session or delivering an oral presentation if required.)
  • Adhere to ASCO's conflict of interest policy. For more information, please visit the ASCO website at http://www.asco.org/conflictof interest.

Conflict of Interest Policy

TSMO must ensure fair balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all of its edu-cational activities through appropriate disclosure of financial interests, among other things. The following interests or relationships must be disclosed: employment or leadership position, advi-sory role, stock ownership, honoraria, research funding, expert testimony, and other remunera-tion. It is the responsibility of the First Author to obtain disclosure information from all coauthors and to provide all disclosure of such interests and relationships.
